Long-Chain Chlorinated Paraffins Have Reached the Arctic

چکیده

Chlorinated paraffins (CPs) were analyzed in marine wildlife from Greenland, Iceland, and the Swedish west coast. CPs up to C29 detected samples Arctic, indicating long-range transport of an industrial chemical group with a 2-million-ton annual production volume. CP concentrations generally higher biota The Sweden/Arctic concentration ratios for very-short-chain (vSCCPs, C<10), short-chain (SCCPs, C10–13), medium-chain (MCCPs, C14–17), long-chain (LCCPs, C>17) cetacean bivalve species range 3.6–150, 5–29, 3–11, 11–450, respectively. For first time, fetal accumulation four classes was found, whereby 3.4 4.5 times lower fetus relative pregnant female minke whale. Cetacean blubber contained proportion chlorinated compared muscle tissue, while lipid-normalized longer chain than tissue. LCCPs predominated (52% total CPs) killer whale waters, which is report where surpassed those other mammals. This study shows that, like classes, are Arctic contaminants that may adversely affect this remote region.

Effects of short-chain chlorinated paraffins on soil organisms.

Despite the fact that chlorinated paraffins have been produced in relatively large amounts, and high concentrations have been found in sewage sludge applied to soils, there is little information on their concentrations in soils and the effect on soil organisms. The aim of this study was to investigate the toxicity of chlorinated paraffins in soils. The effects of short-chain chlorinated paraffi...

Medium-Chain Chlorinated Paraffins (CPs) Dominate in Australian Sewage Sludge

To simultaneously quantify and profile the complex mixture of short-, median-, and long-chain CPs (SCCPs, MCCPs, and LCCPs) in Australian sewage sludge, we applied and further validated a recently developed novel instrumental technique, using quadrupole time-of-flight high resolution mass spectrometry running in the negative atmospheric pressure chemical ionization mode (APCI-qTOF-HRMS). Withou...

Short-chain Chlorinated Paraffins in Biota – Levels and Effects

Short-chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs) are highly complex technical mixtures of polychlorinated n-alkanes with carbon-chain lengths from C10-C13 and chlorine content between 49 and 70%. They are produced by chlorination of n-alkanes and do not occur naturally. Because of their physical properties (viscosity, flame resistance) they are used in many different applications, such as lubricant ad...

Short chain chlorinated paraffins in mollusks from coastal waters in the Chinese Bohai Sea.

As an extremely complex group of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) candidates in the Stockholm Convention, short chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs) have been of extensive concern in recent years. In this study, nine bivalve and two gastropod species were collected in 2009 to evaluate the spatial distributions and potential factors influencing the bioaccumulation of SCCPs in mollusks in the ...
